CALLING ALL NYC KNOW-IT-ALLS and GEOGRAPHICAL GEEKS! Come to world’s only geographical trivia-based game night involving the world’s largest panorama – The Panorama of the City of New York! Participants will compete in teams of 10 (more or less ok!) to test their knowledge of New York City geography.

The Panorama Challenge involves audio clues and laser-pointers highlighting assorted NYC landmarks, bridges, neighborhoods, parks and more. Its your team’s job to identify all 30 locations. Laser-wielding tour guides from The Levys’ Unique New York! will make sure all present can see the location as the audio clue is explained out loud.

This year, Quizmaster Jonathan Turer has devised two levels of all new questions! Teams will be divided up into New York Novices and Panorama Pros, and every single geographical query with have two answers – one for the newbies and one for the seasoned aces. Which means that each team will have 2 chances to win.

There will be Essay Questions! Last year the creative answers in this category made the difference between winners and runners-up. This year the essay challenges should prove to be just as fun and just as crucial as last year. This year will also have song clues for those steeped in NYC’s musicology.

Our panel of All-Star Judges include the Dean of NYC Tour Guides Lee Gelber; NYC Know-It-All Andy Sydor & Webmaster and Author of Forgotten-NY Kevin Walsh. All three will be on hand to call the too-close-to-call answers as well as adjucate any quibbling (remember our critical rule #1: NO QUIBBLING!)

Victors will be crowned in each division; Novices and Pros. The triumphant Pros will see their team name join those of legendary past winners when it is added to the Museum’s Champions Trophy.

Whats more, our wonderful friends at the Brooklyn Brewery will be providing tasty beers, available by donation, samples of whiskey from Kings County Distillery, the first distillery in NYC since Prohibition for donations, plus sandwiches for sale from Hope Deli, on Havemeyer and Hope streets.

There will be a free shuttle travelling between the QMA and the Mets-Willets Point 7 stop.

The Fourth Annual Panorama Challenge

Last Friday, The Levy’s Unique New York tour company held its annual fundraiser for The City Reliquary at the Queens Museum! The Panorama Challenge is a trivia competition, with the focal point being the museum’s Panorama of the City of New York. Laser-pointer-wielding judges directed teams to specific areas on the Panorama and asked questions about the areas.

With several teams, ranging in size from two to six players, the competition was fierce, but fun as well. The game ended in a round consisting of only the top few teams. However, only one team went home with t-shirts and their name of the Panorama Challenge trophy!

QUEENS, NY! The Panorama Challenge is back! Come to the Queens Museum of Art on Friday, March 12th from 7-10pm to participate in the world’s ONLY geographical trivia-based game night involving the world’s largest panorama – The Panorama of the City of New York! Participants will compete in teams to test their knowledge of New York City geography. Team members will be asked questions ranging from easy to difficulty as game controllers assist by highlighting landmarks, bridges, neighborhoods and other sites with far-reaching laser pointers. Admission is free and there will be beers sold and snacks served.

The Panorama of the City of New York, originally commissioned by Robert Moses for the 1964 World’s Fair, is the largest architectural scale model in the world. With a scale of 1 inch: 100 feet, the Panorama has always offered a truly unique view of the five boroughs, one that has left the millions who have seen it in awe. The Panorama made a triumphant return in February after undergoing a massive lighting and multimedia effects upgrade. Now featuring a twelve-minute tour of the model and the city it represents, the recently-upgraded Panorama will continue to transform how viewers experience this one of a kind treasure, and the city it captures in wonderful miniature.

The Levys’ Unique New York!, NY’s First Family of Tour Guides, will host this NYCentric event by pointing out notable icons of New York City via laser pointer as well as giving audio clues to assist the teams. NYCentric events are entertaining events that explore, spotlight and celebrate everything New York City. Produced and hosted monthly by The Levys’ Unique New York!. They aim to introduce New Yorkers and visitors alike to fascinating stories and locales of the city.

The funds raised will benefit The City Reliquary, a one-room museum of curiosities located in Williamsburgh, Brooklyn. A homegrown museum devoted exclusively to New York memorabilia, The City Reliquary’s collection is comprised of everything from fragments of Brooklyn Trolley cars and skyscrapers, to soil samples from all 5 boroughs and an extensive Statue of Liberty collection. Created and produced by Levys’ Unique New York!, New York’s first family of tour guides, performers and event impresarios, the Panorama Challenge is sure to educate and entertain New Yorkers of all walks of life.
