We put out the call, and a fabulous group of civic New Yorkers responded. Here are the contestants who will compete for the title of Miss Subways 2017 on September 28. Each brings something special, but only one will take home the transit tiara.
Tickets on sale now! All proceeds benefit Riders Alliance and The City Reliquary! More event details here.
Let’s meet the contenders…
- As NYC’s only Drag Queen Tour Guide, GLACE CHASE has ridden all the trains. She’ll take us on a subway husband hunt in song & spoken word.
- ROBERT COOVER’S favorite train is the A, because when you pass out on it you end up in the Rockaways! He’ll play an original piece for banjo.
- HEDRA has been every line’s bitch, so she’ll compete as Miss Derailment! She’ll twirl a baton and razzle-dazzle the audience.
- DYLAN GREENBERG loves the G because everyone has to run to catch it. Their performance is a vaudeville-style song called Ride the G Train, recalling the Cab Calloway big band smash, Take the A Train.
- LADY AYE has pursued her dreams as a 3rd-gen New Yorker, WTC survivor, NY Times correspondent, sideshow performer, and more. She’ll be swallowing a sword to show her subway love!
- REBECCA LEIB loves the F train because it helped her through a recent existential crisis. As the F Train Oracle, she’ll perform transportational tarot reads & train line compatibility reads!
- LISA LEVY will perform a monologue about the role of the subway as a character in her life. She thinks it’d be great to have a menopausal woman as Miss Subways to celebrate women of all ages!
- Sundae Fantastique (aka Carrie-Anne Murphy) loves the L! She *craves* the attention that comes with being Miss Subways 2017. She’ll loop her voice through guitar pedals and sing an original song that sounds like being the only person waiting for a train at 3am.
- ANNA PAONE loves the 6 train, because it passes through fascinating decommissioned stations, like Worth St., 18th St., and City Hall. She’ll sing a parody of Sondheim’s “Another Hundred People,” which, after all, captures the buzz of NYC life.
- MELISSA ROCHA’S favorite line depends on her mood–above-ground lines in the summer, and deep subterraneans lines in the cold of winter. She’ll perform an amalgamation of what people say/scream when there’s a sick passenger causing a train delay.
- BRITTANIE SHEREE will perform 5 minutes of stand up about her subway highs (very lowly) lows.
- SUZQ represents the golden line, the NW. She’s a natural redhead, a 15-year Mermaid Parade participant, and has produced the Miss Black Rock City Pageant around the world! She’s known for her fantastic costuming and head pieces. She’ll teach us “Stripper Lessons (for people who don’t want to get naked).”
- As a mermaid, LAURA VON HOLT relies heavily on public transportation. Swimming can’t get you everywhere. Her favorite line is the 2nd Ave Subway, because like her, it’s half myth. She’ll present an embarrassing subway story and a monologue from Steel Magnolias while using Shake Weights.
Don’t miss out on this weird, wonderful, and very New York event in support of the subway system! Get those tickets!

Fun you got Rev Jen to be a judge! City Reliquary should host her Troll Museum as a special exhibit if some or all of her awesome troll collection is still around in storage–you guys are the perfect venue for it and what better NY indie institution to celebrate!
Having said that, we’re very excited about the contestants who are participating!
We wish it too, but we accepted literally everyone who applied. We didn’t rule out anyone.
Wish there was a lil more diversity
