On Saturday, July 30th, please join Crest Hardware from 3pm – 7pm in Celebrating the closing of the 10th Annual Crest Hardware Art Show. There will be music, Drinks and your last chance to view or purchase Art.
Afterwards, head over to the Reliquary Museum to see the official presentation and donation of the money to the City Reliquary Museum. There will be cold beer (suggested donation) and hot jams. The fun starts at 7:30 at the Reliquary Museum.
Last Friday we hosted the third in our Friday Night Lights series of live music and outdoor movies. On the 15th we featured the stylings of Austin McCutchen, Alana Amram, and John Travolta in Urban Cowboy.

Crest Fest 2011 is coming to Williamsburg, this Saturday June 18th!
It’s the official launch party for the Crest Hardware Art Show! Where will you be? At Crest Hardware! This year’s program will include a live music stage, two DJ booths, local, creative art and food vendors.
The group art show includes 100+ works from various artists of different mediums and will be installed throughout 10,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space, including a 5,000 sq ft urban garden. Plus, enjoy food from local vendors and live music performances by The Suzan, EMEFE, Gunfight! and Little Victory. DJ sets by FAT and EZ, Nick Catchdubs, Lucas Walters, Dom Rocket, Rok One, King Cut, Synapse, Peter Hale and Krunk Pony.
The fun starts at 1pm Saturday June 18th and goes until 7pm. Its free! And all proceeds and profits go to support the City Reliquary Museum.
The City Reliquary sponsored Bicycle Fetish Day took place the last weekend of May. We blocked off part of Havermayer street and celebrated Williamsburg’s love of bicycles. Awards were handed out for Best Small Wheel, Best in Show, Best Vintage (we had one entry from 1938!), Best Handmade, and Best Beaterbike. In addition, we also raffled off a light blue bicycle at the event. The man who won luckily did not show up to BFD with a bike and rode off with a new one!
The after party, which was held in the City Reliquary’s back yard, was also a huge success! We had first time visitors as well as old friends. With beer provided by Brooklyn Brewery, we partook in bicycle themed events such as whacking a bicycle themed piñata, stationary bicycle races, and bicycle burlesque by Darlinda Just Darlinda, Divina Grandsparkle, Frida Schwinn and Miss Spoke.
This past week was our monthly craft night. Guests came and made miniature terrariums out of baby food jars or brought their own. We had some creative guests bring fish tanks and coffee pots to build put their moss in. So far, this craft was my favorite, which may account for the lack of photos. I was too busy making my own terrarium. That is how much fun was had!
This Craft Night Anna Grant will be teaching us how to make terrariums. For $5 you will be supplied with a plant as well as materials to decorate your terrarium. Just be sure to bring your own glass container.
This week at Show and Tell we had a particularly funny item shared with the crowd. One guest brought in an illustrated book of poetry that her brother wrote in grade school. The title, Poetry that won’t make u fall asleep!!!!!!, shows exactly how her brother felt about poetry and the assignment.
The book of poetry was written completely in haikus. Here are some excerpts from the book:
Spring has officially sprung in Williamsburg. Like the saying goes, April showers bring May flowers. Due to the pending threat of rain, our craft night had to be held inside for this month. The rain didn’t get anyone’s spirits down though. Both new and returning visitors stopped by to make paper flowers and celebrating the coming of spring with the Reliquary.
In the second edition of From the Vault, we will be looking at the 1939 World’s Fair, which was held in Flushing Meadows, Queens. As the above picture indicates, our basement is a dark cave full of many mysterious things. Like Disney’s Vault or your grandmother’s attic, you never know what surprises will be found or brought out next. While rummaging around in near-darkness, I came across a box marked “1939 World’s Fair.” It was tucked behind a two-person bicycle and some tripods. While the City Reliquary does have some objects on display currently from this World’s Fair, our space just doesn’t allow for everything in our collection to make it into the display cases. Thanks to this blog, the cool stuff that can’t make it there is still making it’s way to you!
This artifact was given out as a souvenir from the Fair. Complete with lines on the back to add an address, you could ship this packet of photos back to family members who were unable to make the trip with you to New York.
