After batting an impressive .625  in a spring exhibition series, Robinson joined the Brooklyn Dodgers at first base for the 1947 season.  He made his debut on April 15, 1947 against the Boston Braves at Ebbets Field.

The color barrier was officially broken.

In his rookie season, Robinson led the league in stolen bases, scored the second most runs in the National League, led the Dodgers to a league pennant and was named Rookie of the Year.

Despite his success, but perhaps to be expected, Robinson faced both positive and negative reviews.
